Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2 October 2026
In short: WinGet Manager does not collect, store or share any personal data. There is no telemetry, no analytics, no advertising and no account. Everything the app keeps stays on your own computer.
This policy covers the WinGet Manager desktop app (including the version distributed through the Microsoft Store) and the website wingetmanager.com.
Who is responsible
WinGet Manager is a personal open-source project by Hielke van Braak, based in the Netherlands. For any question about privacy, email hello@wingetmanager.com.
The app
What the app does not do
- It does not collect usage statistics, crash reports or telemetry.
- It does not ask for or store your name, email address or any other personal details.
- It contains no advertising and no third-party tracking code.
- It does not send the list of software installed on your computer to anyone.
Data stored on your computer
The app keeps a small amount of data locally, either in %APPDATA%\WinGetManager or next to the portable executable:
- Settings, such as your language and update preferences.
- Log files describing what the app did, for example which packages were installed or updated. Log files are limited in size and never leave your computer unless you choose to share them, for example when reporting a bug.
The app also reads your Windows light/dark theme setting so it can match it. You can remove all of this data by uninstalling the app and deleting the folder above.
Network connections
The app connects to the internet only for the following:
- Package information and downloads. WinGet Manager is a front-end for Microsoft's Windows Package Manager (
winget). When you search, install or update software, wingetcontacts its configured sources, by default Microsoft'swingetrepository and the Microsoft Store, and downloads installers from the publishers' own servers. These requests are handled bywingetand Microsoft, in the same way as when you usewingetfrom the command line. - Update check. At startup the app asks GitHub for the latest released version of WinGet Manager. You can turn this off in the settings. If you choose to update, the new version is downloaded from GitHub.
As with any internet connection, these services can see your IP address and basic technical information about the request. They process this under their own privacy policies (see Third parties). WinGet Manager itself does not receive any of this information.
The website
- The website uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking.
- It loads no external fonts, advertising or social media widgets.
- To show the current version number, your browser asks the GitHub API for the latest release of WinGet Manager.
- The website is hosted by Cloudflare. To deliver and protect the site, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address and browser type.
Third parties
The app and website rely on the following services, each with its own privacy policy:
- Microsoft (Windows Package Manager, Microsoft Store): Microsoft Privacy Statement
- GitHub (update check, downloads, source code): GitHub General Privacy Statement
- Cloudflare (website hosting): Cloudflare Privacy Policy
Software you install through WinGet Manager comes from its own publisher and is subject to that publisher's terms and privacy policy.
Your rights
Because WinGet Manager does not collect personal data, there is nothing about you stored with us to view, correct or delete. If you contact us by email or on GitHub, we only use what you send to answer your question. You can ask us to delete that correspondence at any time. Under the GDPR you also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Children
WinGet Manager is a general-purpose system tool. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If the way the app or website handles data changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the changelog.
